Jodhpur, The Sun City That Enthralled Me!
Jodhpur, the second largest city in the state of Rajasthan, has always been a popular tourist attraction. People from across the world travel here to witness the many interesting facets of this vibrant city. Khushboo Sikawat travelled to the Sun City in October 2015, and almost instantly fell in love with the city’s vibrancy and royal aura. Here’s her list of must-visit places in Jodhpur…
#1 Mehrangarh Fort
I travelled back in time, and immersed myself in the city’s rich historic culture. The magnificent fort happens to be one of the finest forts in India. I was completely awe-struck by the beauty of the structure. I kept wondering what the lives of the king and the queen may have been like when they resided in the marvellous fort. There is a fort gallery, a fort museum and fort period rooms that perfectly describe the fort’s history, and represent the skills of the Jodhpuri sculptors.
#2 Shopping Arcades
I was floored by the traditional dresses and foot-wears there, and wanted to purchase them all. I visited National Handloom, which is a famous shopping outlet in Jodhpur. From beautiful sarees to well-knitted sweaters, it is a one stop to tick-off all the items from your shopping list.
#3 Janta Sweet Home
Jodhpur is well-known for its sweets, and Janta Sweet Home was my place! It served me some mouth-watering sweet dishes like Rajbhog, Gulab Jamun and Jalebi. Apart from sweet dishes, I nibbled on some delectable sandwiches, mirchi bada and samosas.
#4 Umaid Palace
I witnessed the rich heritage of Jodhpur as I walked around the palace. There were butlers who briefed me on the palace’s history and its architecture. It felt like a ride in the glorifying past of the city Jodhpur. I also visited a section that had vintage cars on display, which truly showcased the marvel times of the royal kings and the queens. The city kept me enthralled throughout. I was intrigued by their culture and traditions, and didn’t want to leave the kingly city at all. The people I met there were hospitable and kind, and not for a second I felt out of place.
Finally, I’d suggest all of you to take a tour of the city preferably from October to February, for it is cool and pleasant, and is the best time to visit.
